“If Henri Cartier-Bresson had ever shot male nudes, the results would probably have borne a resemblance to Glen Mitchell’s work. Mitchell’s men are just there; he is not presenting them as icons, nor is he making a comment on their ordinariness. Turning the page to a Mitchell photo is like opening a door to someone you’ve never met before and who doesn’t particularly care about meeting you. The reportage quality of Mitchell’s lighting also harks back to Cartier-Bresson’s pioneering work in the thirties. Born in New York in 1959, Mitchell began his relationship with the camera as a model there with the Wilhelmina and Ford agencies. His multifaceted career has included dance, fashion, painting, and graphic design. He now lives in Miami Beach with his longtime partner, Ian McMinn.”
